ABOUT THE CITY
The gateway to the Algarve.
Faro is Portugal’s southernmost city, located on the south coast of the Algarve and is therefore right in the heart of one of Europe’s most popular tourist regions. With a population of around 65 000, it is a small, peaceful, safe and manageable city. Besides easy access to the beach, Faro is set within the stunning Ria Formosa Natural Park area and also boasts an old walled town with centuries of history, as well as a vibrant town centre with plenty of nightlife.
The Algarve's main resorts, world-renowned beaches and charming towns are easily accessible by public transport. Faro has its own international airport, with many low-cost airlines operating routes from all over Europe. Lisbon is 280km to the north, and can be reached by a 3- hour train journey.
