THE MASTER

Master’s Programme in Tourism at Mid Sweden University offers quality education with strong links to current research in Tourism Studies and Human Geography. The programme is associated with ETOUR – the largest tourism research center in Northern Europe, with around 40 researchers from 20 countries. With long history of interdisciplinary tourism education programmes on Bachelor, Master’s and PhD levels our environment provides everything you need to quench your curiosity about tourism. Applicants from any disciplines and backgrounds are welcome to join us in the beautiful city of Östersund, close to water, forests and mountains! Our Master programmes enables you can study in a small group of fellow international and local students and get an individual and personalized approach from teachers, who also are all active researchers in the fields of tourism and human geography. Our Master in Tourism programme exists in three versions:

Now, more than ever, new visions, imagination, creativity and shifting priorities are required to help transform tourism into a more resilient and sustainable sector. The Master’s Programme in Tourism at Mid Sweden University invites students from different walks of life to reimagine the future of tourism. All backgrounds are welcome! The programme offers fundamental courses within the field of tourism and human geography, focusing on sustainable, regenerative and transformative approaches. All teachers are active researchers and keep students up-to-date with the latest findings within their respective fields. The programme is taught in English and is offered at Campus Östersund, which is an ideal environment for studying tourism and recreation. Close proximity to beautiful nature, the Swedish and Norwegian mountains means that students can easily access many of the region’s top tourism destinations. Since the programme is linked to ETOUR, it enables students to participate in current research projects and benefit from the rich network of international contacts. Within Master in Tourism programme you also have an opportunity to take a degree in Human Geography. The discipline of Human Geography investigates the interaction between humans, societies, and the environment. The geographers at MIUN conduct research in several topics including: exploring the interface between society and

nature; examining and discussing concepts relating to space, place, and scale (the local and the global). In recent years, various research projects have included studies on tourism geographies, landscape and resource management, regional development, urban, economic, and political geography, labour, and feminist geographies. Tourism-related research includes mobility and infrastructure; work and workers; nature-based tourism; urban, economic, and political geography; climate change and small businesses; regional development; cultural heritage and rural landscapes, and tourism and peacebuilding. Whether you are interested in a career in the tourism, hospitality or adjacent fields, research career in tourism or human geography, or simply want to gain rich knowledge about this sector, you can fit this programme to your needs.
